A Proverb to Think About

Proverbs 17:3 The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts.

God isn't concerned with how much wealth we have…it makes no difference to Him in terms of how we are seen in His eyes. However, He looks at men's hearts. For example, when Samuel went to anoint God's choice of king over Israel, God told him that He looked at the inside of man, the heart, and not the outside. (1 Samuel 16:7) How often do we choose our friends based on their outside appearance? Is it because of their good looks? Their accomplishments? Or should it be because of the inside of their heart, their attitude towards God and His work? The outside attitude of a man comes as a result of the inside, not the other way around. And if one is acting like a Christian when he is with other Christians or in church, but appears as a unbeliever in his/her everyday life, he/she needs to stop living a hypocritical life. Choose this day who you will serve. Will you follow Joshua's example? "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord," or will you have to be told "But ye have nor obeyed my voice; why therefore have you done this? Wherefore as I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you." It is a choice of the heart, for out of the heart the mouth speaketh.
