We should not be discouraged and worried when evil people prosper and gain great power. Neither should we be envious of all the worldly goods and fun sinners have. Yes, sin is fun. Yes, our fleshly selves want all that the world has and all the enjoyment that the evil get out of sinning. But we cannot allow ourselves to give in to the flesh. As Paul tells us in Galatians, "For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting." If we give into and feed the flesh, we will grow cold spiritually. Think of it like this: your blood is the Spirit, and a bunch of needles are the sin. If you continue to stick yourself, you will bleed more and more and have less and less blood. It takes much longer to build back up your blood supply than it does to stick a bunch more pins in. And so it is with sin...the more you feed the flesh, the longer it will take to get back to where you were in your relationship with the Lord. And notice that what Paul said is true. It cannot be gotten around. It is certain; it will happen, just as you will lose blood if you puncture your skin. No, it's not a perfect analogy, because sticking yourself with pins does not feel good to your flesh, but I think you get the point.
